My Server History!!

Before my dealings with subscription-based Television, and before illness struck hard I had two servers, one was mine, one was for a friend. I bought the rig for that reason. Over the years it went to 1 File server, 1 web server, to a web server.

I have run Windows Home Server and WHS 2011, Windows 2008 and 2008r2, various installs of Ubuntu (until I had a ransomware attack too – I did backup though YAY!) so I then moved to Windows 10 as a Faux Server (this worked until build 1709 came along – wiped all my settings, great – I did backup though YAY!) and now runs Windows Server 2016 Standard.

I have a ‘Triggers Broom’ server, (for the none UK residents – Trigger was a character in Only Fools and Horses a UK Sitcom, to quote, ‘This old brooms had 17 new heads and 14 new handles in its time.’) I have had the same server for 10 years, I’ve only replaced the motherboard twice, the hard drives when they’ve failed and the power supply when it died.

Does everything I need it to, although people still wonder why. After 10 or so years being your own email provider and web host in many shapes and forms, its now ‘just the way I do things!
